Event Overview
Dies Natalis FTIP 2021 was a hybrid anniversary celebration with the theme “Inovasi dan Kreativitas untuk Agroindustri Unggul”. The event combined limited on‑site attendance with remote participants through Zoom, while simultaneously being streamed to YouTube as part of FTIP’s early adoption of hybrid learning and event formats.
Role & Responsibilities
- Live streaming operator and technical director for hybrid workflow
- Camera framing and scene composition for both in‑room and online audiences
- Managing transitions between on‑site speakers, remote participants, and presentation materials
- Ensuring stable dual‑platform output (Zoom + YouTube) throughout the event
My Role
Technical Setup
- OBS Studio as the main switching and streaming system
- Sony professional camcorder and Canon DSLR connected via USB capture interface
- HDMI capture interface for improved video quality and stability
- Faculty sound system and mixer for audio input
- Campus LAN broadband connection
- In‑room monitoring for speaker view, program output, and Zoom gallery
Challenges
Transitioning from fully online events to hybrid workflows
Balancing audio between on‑site microphones, Zoom participants, and playback sources
Maintaining consistent video quality with a higher‑end camera setup
Managing latency and feedback risks in a hybrid environment
Solutions & Execution
- Implemented a structured OBS scene system optimized for hybrid switching
- Used the Sony camcorder’s clean HDMI output for sharper, more stable visuals
- Balanced multi‑source audio routing to avoid echo, clipping, and feedback
- Coordinated timing between on‑site and remote speakers to maintain smooth transitions
- Established monitoring routines to ensure stable output to both Zoom and YouTube
Outcome
The event delivered a significantly improved visual and audio experience compared to the previous year. The upgraded camera system, refined hybrid workflow, and stable dual‑platform streaming contributed to a smooth and professional broadcast, supporting FTIP’s leadership in hybrid event implementation within the university.
