Semnas PERTETA – FTIP UNPAD
Event Overview
The Seminar Nasional PERTETA – FTIP UNPAD was held on 9–10 February 2021 with the theme “Penguatan Inovasi Berbasis Internet of Things untuk mendukung Industri Pertanian 4.0”. The event was conducted in a hybrid format for the organizing committee, while participants and audiences joined fully online through Zoom during the early phase of hybrid adoption in the COVID‑19 era.
Role & Responsibilities

- Live streaming operator for the hybrid setup
- Managing camera framing and ensuring the speaker feed was consistently visible to Zoom participants
- Handling manual transitions between camera view, screen sharing, and presentation materials directly inside Zoom
- Monitoring audio levels and ensuring the on‑site microphone feed was transmitted clearly to remote audiences
My Role
Technical Setup
- Canon DSLR connected via USB camera interface directly into Zoom
- No OBS Studio or hardware switcher (ATEM) used
- Basic faculty sound system and mixer for microphone input
- Standard campus LAN connection
- Single‑screen monitoring for Zoom gallery, speaker view, and shared materials

Challenges
Frequent on/off interruptions due to battery changes and overheating
Buffering and frame drops
Caused by USB‑based video capture
No dedicated switching system
Requiring all transitions to be done manually inside Zoom
No multi‑view, no program preview
Early-pandemic hybrid workflow
Committee and speakers were still adapting to hybrid protocols
Audio balancing issues
between on‑site microphones and remote participants
Solutions & Execution
- Maintained continuous monitoring of the DSLR feed to quickly respond to battery‑related dropouts
- Adjusted camera placement and exposure to maintain clarity despite USB limitations
- Coordinated closely with the on‑site committee to time speaker transitions and minimize visual disruptions
- Managed audio routing through the mixer to reduce echo and maintain clarity for Zoom participants
- Utilized Zoom’s built‑in controls for spotlighting speakers, screen sharing, and managing participant visibility

Outcome
Despite significant equipment limitations and the early hybrid environment, the seminar was successfully delivered to all participants. The event demonstrated FTIP’s commitment to adopting hybrid academic activities during the pandemic, and the experience became an important foundation for improving future hybrid workflows and upgrading equipment in subsequent years.
